Start with your own situation
People who are married look at these sites for very different reasons. Some have a partner who knows and agrees. Some are in a marriage that has become more like a friendship. Some are separated but not divorced. Others are thinking about something their partner would not know about.
Each of these leads to different needs. Someone in an agreed open marriage may want a site where honesty about that is normal. Someone keeping things private will care more about photo controls and payment details. Knowing which applies to you makes the comparison much simpler.
A neutral checklist
Use these questions on any site you are considering, including ours.
Audience fit
- Does the site say clearly who it is for?
- Can members state their relationship status and what they are looking for?
- Does it seem to attract people in a similar position to yours?
Privacy controls
- Can you keep photos private and choose who sees them?
- Can non-members see your profile?
- Are you asked for more personal information than the service needs?
Profile authenticity
- Does the site explain how it deals with fake or misleading profiles?
- Is verification offered, and is it optional or required?
- Does the site say whether any profiles are run by the company itself? If you cannot find out, ask before you pay.
Remember that a verification badge confirms a check took place, not that someone is honest. Our guide on spotting fake profiles and scams covers what to watch for.
Moderation and reporting
- Is there a clear way to report and block someone?
- Does the site say what happens after a report?
Costs
- Are prices visible before you sign up?
- Is there an automatic renewal, and how do you cancel it?
- Does it cost money to read or send messages, and for whom?
- What will appear on your card statement?
Consent, boundaries and risk
Whatever your arrangement, the people you meet deserve honesty about your circumstances. Telling someone early that you are married, and what that means for how often you can meet, avoids hurt later.
If your partner does not know, it is worth thinking carefully about the consequences for them, for any children, for your finances and for you. We set these out in the real risks of an affair, and alternatives to an affair covers routes that involve no secrecy.
The limits of online privacy
No dating site can make you invisible. Other members can screenshot conversations, devices keep records, and card statements list payments. Good privacy controls reduce what is exposed on the site. They do not remove every risk. The discretion guide explains the steps that are up to you.
