The role trap
Parent. Partner. Colleague. Reliable one. Roles are useful, but they swallow personality. Many people say they feel invisible long before they feel unfaithful.
Step 1: List your "old you" traits
What were you like at 22? Bolder? Sillier? More adventurous? Write ten traits and circle the ones you miss.
Step 2: Ask what you actually want
Not what you should want. Touch, novelty, solitude, adventure, being admired. Be honest. Nobody's reading this but you.
Step 3: Try on identities safely
Join a class, travel solo, change your style. Small experiments tell you what fits.
Step 4: Find mirrors
Spend time with people who respond to the version of you that you like. Their reactions help you remember who you are.
Step 5: Decide where it belongs
Some of what you rediscover belongs in your current relationship, some in friendships, and some, honestly, might point to bigger questions about your life. Better to know than to wonder.
